Why Mars & Venus collide

Recently, whenever i go into a book sales, for sure, i would bring back stacks of books.
It was not a habit for me to read, especially to those who knows me well.
Good thing, i do not go craze about fashion much then.
Anyways, I am reading this book called "Why Mars & Venus collide" by John Gray.

Familiar?
Yes, it is the same author for "Man are from Mars, Women are from Venus."
It is nearly somewhat the same- it mentions about the communications and emotion need between two genders.
However, this book teaches you why and how people get breakdowns from their relationships,
also not to mention, ways to overcome these.

As i read the book, there was something caught my eyes.
In fact it is two quotations from the book -
" It makes it much easier to talk without blaming when we remember that we speak different languages."
" Mixing feelings and problem solving simply does not work"

It does not only applies on couples, but general.
Imagine, if we can talk face to face, pressing down and anger, trying to solve a problem in good manner, damage in the relationship would be reduced!
How many of us could actually solve problems, face to face, by using patience and positive attitudes, not by blaming on each other?
You can say that asians normally do not do that.
Some people thinks that they are fighting for their respect and rights.
Actually, that is creating more problems.
If they are open minded and accepted facts, at least the problem is solved.

The book also mentioned about women, avoiding fights and improving situations.
It says that a woman should not challenge man with threatening questions and comments.
Normally, when quarreling, guys would pretend listening when people are "nagging" to them, especially the women.
Then they will tell him that he is not listening.
They would tell him this.
" You are not listening, you will never understand."
He may have reacted upon to that, especially when he thinks that his or her comment is absurd.

Instead, they should tell him in a positive way.
For example, " Let me say this differently"
At least guys would be glad that they are changing slightly the way they explain.
Imagine you are the guy, maybe you will understand more.

Men and Women communicate differently.
If you want to prevent colliding, then read the book.
It helps, not only to couples, but to any communications.

sortiee!

I've never thought that the consequence of taking up Human Communications would require me to actually post in a blog. My name is Kenny Lee, aged 18 years old and I'm not exactly what you would call an eloquent writer. That doesn't mean that I do not enjoy reading blogs and articles though, I enjoy them tremendously and indulge in whatever I find interesting or time worthy. However, I feel that an introductory post should first be made to introduce myself to my fellow group members and Mr Murali himself. This is a blog created by our group members as part of a task assigned to us by our Human Communications class lecturer, Mr Murali and will be evaluated and assessed to a score which would ultimately be added to our final year assessment of the subject. This means no vulgarities, unrelated spam, indecent content and a much much harder time for me to actually post anything relevant. My group mates are great and all but I hope the fact that i'm the only male in the group won't disrupt my communications with the other 4 group members which consists of the opposite gender. Though we will have our differences in opinions and interests, which is probably cause of our cultural differences aswell.(look, I study in class 8D) Despite our group having a diverse panel of members, I'm pretty sure we're going to get along fine. right gals? (;
oh yeah, and that picture was just to make my post seem longer.

Kenny Lee.

Pillow Talk......

Have you ever thought of how close and intimate your relationship is with your siblings? As for me, I only have a brother. My little brother is five years younger than me. My brother and I have totally different kind of personalities that most of my family members also agreed with me. However, our relationship is close and intimate. I am a very quiet person whereas my brother is a very talkative person. He can talk for the whole day but I can be very quiet for the whole day. There was one day when my grandmother did not know I was in the house the whole day and she thought I had gone out with my parents.

Although my brother and I like to watch different kinds of movies and our hobbies are also different from each other, we always like to spend some time together to have pillow talks before we get into the bed. Our pillow talks can be very funny and also serious. Two different kinds of personalities can share the same room and sleep in the same room to share each other’s interesting stories.

The pillow talks have enhanced our communication skills. As we know, listening is the most crucial kind of communication in our daily life. My brother and I do not hesitate to listen to each other. We have become the good listeners for one another. We always listen to each other’s problems and try to find the solutions to solve it. On top of that, it has also improved our relationship skills. As we know, a good relationship requires a lot effort and understanding among one another. Without a good relationship, it will create a lot of misunderstanding and the relationship with one another will also become worse.

Presentation Skills

Have you ever had difficulties in how to give a proper and effective speech? Are you always suffering from too much of stress because the next day is your presentation day? Are you always having the feeling that your heart is beating too fast and you are overly nervous before giving a presentation? No matter what your presentation is, you always want to give your best and put as much effort as you can, so that the audience will have a good impression of you. In doing so, a good speaker must acquire several presentation skills, so that the speech is well-prepared and well-presented. There are some dos and don’ts in giving a speech. The following paragraphs will give you a clear explanation on the dos and don’ts when you are giving your presentation.

First, you must make sure that you are communicating with your audience and not be like a robot reading the content of your script. This is to enable the audience to listen and understand your presentation. Next, you must stand up when giving the presentation, so that the audience will pay attention to your presentation. You are not allowed to sit unless you are forced to do it. In addition, it is advisable to move around for every 3 or 4 minutes and do some hand gestures. However, you are strongly recommended not to over do it because it will distract the audience attention. The audience will instead focus on your hand gestures if you over do it because it is also a kind of non verbal communication.

Furthermore, you are also required to make eye contact with your audience and always face the audience when you are speaking. You are strongly advised not to stare at the podium and ignore the audience when giving the presentation. Eye contact and body language are the non verbal communication methods which are very important during the presentation. An appropriate eye contact and body language will show your non verbal attitude and behavior.

Moreover, you must always vary the pitch of your voice. This is because if you always speak in monotones it can be sleep-inducing. Your speech will not be interesting and entertaining and the audience will easily get bored if you continuously communicate in a single tone. On top of that, the loudness of your voice is also very important when giving the speech. You must make sure the audience can hear your voice. In doing so, you must speak loudly and clearly. Please do not mumble the words. The audience will feel confused and not understand your presentation if you like to mumble the words. Later, the audiences will loss patience with your presentation.

In conclusion, you should always include the above presentation skills in your speech so that it will keeps the attention of the audience.

That are a few greetings that usually we use before we start our conversation. Greetings are important to show our presence, to show culture, to give attention to someone or to differentiate the type of relationship the two parties are having. Other than that, greetings its not only by words, people can express it by gesture and body language. Example like smiling, hand shaking, hugging or cheek kissing. In addition, by greeting, we can also express our feelings to people whether it is happy, excited, anger, frustrated, sad or even lust. These are part of how human communicate with each other.

So, for today. Just a simple post. I would like to greet and welcome all of our group members Cheng Yee, Ashreen, Kenny, Shu Tiing and last but not least our one and only lecturer Mr.Murali to our humble blog.

Enjoy reading and enjoy evaluating.
