Ways to Improve Your Nonverbal Communication Skills

We always hear that actions speak louder than words; however, some of us do not make good use of it. We always put our focus on verbal communication and seldom have the initiative to improve our nonverbal communication and we tend to do last minute preparation for nonverbal communication. Actually, there are several ways to improve your nonverbal communication by using video recorder, digital camera or audio recorder.

When we are using the video recorder, first, we need to locate the video recorder in the right position where we can observe our nonverbal communication. Then, we can start a conversation with our friends for a while. After that, we can stop the recording. Later, we can start to playback the conversation and observe the verbal and nonverbal communication. We can playback for a few times to make sure we can find mistakes that we need take into account and try to improve when there is room for improvement.

Besides usage of video recorder, we also can use digital camera. First, we can ask for help from our friends to take some pictures of us while we are communicating with someone. This will help you to see your body language, facial expressions as well as gestures.

Audio recorder can also be used to evaluate your skills. First, you can start to record your conversation with your friends. After a while, we can stop the recording. Subsequently, we can playback the conversation and listen carefully to the way you communicate with your friends. You may need to pay attention to tone, timing, pace and other sounds.

By using these methods, we can elevate our nonverbal communication skills. This will also help us to find our mistakes and see how you are when performing nonverbal communication.
